Vehicle Description
The Lotus Esprit is a sports car that was built by Lotus Cars at their Hethel factory in the United Kingdom between 1976 and 2004. It was among the first of designer Giorgetto Giugiaro's polygonal "folded paper" designs. in 1996, Lotus launched the Esprit V8 Twin Turbo. The car received Lotus' own Type 918 V8 engine, which was an all-aluminium 90 Degree DOHC 4 valves per cylinder with a flat-plane crankshaft and twin Garrett AiResearch T25/60 turbochargers. The transaxle used was the same Renault unit as before but upgraded by Lotus racing driver Derek Bell with a much thicker single piece input shaft. In period tests, acceleration from 0–60 mph was achieved in 4.4 seconds and top speeds of over 175 mph were achieved. In 1998, Lotus produced 142 cars but only brought 95 of them to the United States.
